Green-R Energy Assessment are UK market leaders specialising in providing energy performance certificates for all domestic and commercial buildings.

Commercial EPC

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are issued by energy assessors belonging to a government-approved accreditation scheme. EPCs quantify a building's calculated potential energy performance in the form of an 'asset rating', which is then presented with a rating from A to G.

If you are buying or renting business premises, looking at an Energy Performance Certificate enables you to consider the energy efficiency of the property and its subsequent energy costs.

For the sale or rent of an existing property, it is the owner or tenant who is responsible for providing an Energy Performance Certificate and Recommendations Report to any prospective buyer or tenant. This should be done no later than the day on which written information is provided about the premises i.e your property’s sales particulars.

As it is a legal requirement any prospective buyers or tenants must receive an Energy Performance Certificate before they buy, let or sublet premises. Failure to provide an Energy Performance Certificate will result in fine equating to 12.5% of your current business rates, subject to a minimum of £500 and a maximum of £5000.

Energy Performance Certificates are needed for buildings with multiple tenancies and let for different uses, with a mixture of retail, office and/or residential accommodation.

Energy Performance Certificates are NOT needed for:

  • lease renewals or extensions
  • compulsory purchase orders
  • lease surrenders
  • temporary buildings with a planned time of use less than two years
  • standalone buildings with a total useful floor area of less than 50 sqm
  • agricultural buildings with low energy demand
